The Perfect Day in Battery Park City

Mar 10, 2021

At Gateway, our Battery Park City location puts us right in the heart of everything Lower Manhattan has to offer! Surrounded by incredible restaurants, beautiful parks, tremendous history, and a thriving downtown scene, there are endless ways to enjoy our spectacular waterfront neighborhood. Not sure where to begin? No worries! This week, we’re taking you through the best way to spend 24-hours right here in BPC. Read ahead and enjoy our guide to having the perfect day in Battery Park City!

Start with Brunch

Any day that starts with brunch sounds like a pretty fantastic day to us! And fortunately, Battery Park City is home to a ton of excellent restaurants to choose from. We recommend checking out one of the many amazing waterfront options nearby to take full advantage of our neighborhood’s stunning Hudson River views. Try the heated outdoor patio at Liberty Bistro for a tasty French menu or cozy up in an outdoor chalet at Pier 15 restaurant Watermark. For even more excellent brunch spots nearby, take a look at our guide to heated outdoor dining near Gateway.

Explore The Battery Park

As the city’s first waterfront park (established in 1693), The Battery is home to a tremendous amount of history and incredible sights to explore. The Battery Conservancy maintains the park and hosts a variety of frequent events, such as a bird watch walk, tours of the park and its accompanying farm, and outdoor yoga classes during the summertime. Find an up-to-date list of the park’s events here. And when it reopens post-Covid, be sure to grab a ride on the park’s magical SeaGlass carousel.

Visit Castle Clinton

Located within The Battery park, Castle Clinton National Monument is a great place to learn more about our city’s fascinating history. Originally constructed as a US military base and later transitioned into a thriving cultural center, Castle Clinton has also welcomed millions of immigrants into the country throughout its rich past. Check out our mini history guide of Castle Clinton to learn more before your visit.

Take a Waterfront Bike Ride

The Hudson waterfront’s sprawling greenway is right outside our door at Gateway. Take to the park’s dedicated bike paths for miles of serene and unencumbered cycling. With several Citi Bike stations located nearby, it’s easy to rent a bike for an hour or two and explore all the stunning nature to be found throughout Battery Park.

Grab an Evening Cocktail

After a day of exploring Battery Park City, a relaxing drink while watching the sunset is in order. In the warmer months, head to the rooftop bar at Loopy Doopy in the Conrad Hotel for unparalleled views and inventive cocktails like the “Boozy Ice Pop” pictured here. Or for a classic NYC vibe, check out The Dead Rabbit--an Irish bar with serious cocktails, they’ve been named the world’s best bar twice! Afterwards, grab dinner at tasty Mexican spot El Vez or try the yummy seafood menu at Seamore’s restaurant.
